In den letzten Jahrzehnten haben neue Metho- den in der Diagnostik und Therapie zu einer weiteren Aufklärung von Ursachen und damit zu einer Subklassifikation von Schwindeldiagnosen beigetragen. Die unscharfen Diagnosen Menière- Krankheit und Vestibularisausfall beginnen sich aufzulösen. An ihre Stelle tritt zunehmend eine neue begriffliche Systematik von Diagnosen. Das Symptom „Schwindel“ ist ein sehr häufiges Symptom bei vielen Erkrankungen. Jedem Arzt ist die Problematik bekannt, die aufgrund des subjektiven Charakters, der individuellen Wahrnehmung und Interpretation sowie der Vieldeutigkeit, Ungenauigkeit und Unschärfe des Begriffs entsteht und zu Schwierigkeiten führen kann.
