Abstract
At present at least 14 distinct laser materials have been demonstrated in this series. These exhibit wide variations in their suitability as laser media. The search for new materials continues and it is anticipated that many new materials will be found. The search continues for improvements in the important parameters: wavelength coverage, energy storage, fluorescence lifetime, radiative quantum yield, emission cross-section, and excited state absorption. One product of this effort, Cr:ScBO3, was reported for the first time at this conference.
