Nanoscopic Quantum Rings: A New Perspective

With rapid advances in fabrication of nano-scale devices, quantum rings of nanometer dimensions that are disorder free and contain only a few (interacting) electrons have gained increasing attention. Accordingly, the emphasis of theoretical research has also shifted from the problems involving the persistent current which is indirectly related to the energy levels, to a direct probe of the low-lying energy spectrum of a single quantum ring. Transport and optical spectroscopies have revealed many interesting aspects of the energy spectra that are in good agreement with the theoretical picture presented here.
