Abstract
Due to the vulnerability to errors of encoded video bitstream using current video coding standards, it is necessary to enhance the robustness of an encoded video bitstream for realizing decent video communication in error prone environment – especially in mobile or wireless situations. Though in some standards, some error-resilient video coding and error concealment tools have been introduced, video transmission in mobile systems still poses big challenges. In this paper, a new approach toward error resilience is proposed, in which the video bitstream is not protected by Resynchronization, instead it is protected by ECC (Error Correction Coding). Much better results with ECC than using conventional error resilience tools in the MPEG-4 video coding standard have been obtained in simulation.
