Abstract
We describe the observation of spontaneous emission in the fluorescence spectra of Na vapor excited near the Na D lines by a focused, pulsed dye laser. The fluorescence peaks have been shown to originate from two simultaneously acting physical processes; excited state Raman scattering (ESRS) and resonantly enhanced three-photon scattering (RETPS).
