Part of the book series: Notes on Numerical Fluid Mechanics and Multidisciplinary Design ((NNFM,volume 87))

Summary

Today, CFD is a standard tool for the aerodynamic design of high-lift systems at Airbus. Fast and reliable CFD-methods allowing a quick evaluation of numerous design modifications as well as advanced methods capable to predict the complex flow around a complete aircraft in high-lift configuration are part of the design process. Examples for the application of CFD-tools suitable for the respective design task are presented, i.e. 2D-contour design with a Navier-Stokes method, trailing edge layout studies with a quasi-3D method and prediction of Reynolds number and engine installation effects with 3Dviscous-Panel, 3D-Euler- and 3D-Navier-Stokes methods.
