It is said that urban ozone molecules generated in big cities increase in number, being diffused and transported toward suburbs and sea by atmospheric motions. Therefore, it is very important to measure regional distributions of ozone concentrations in a short time for resolving a mechanism of photo-chemical smogs. The airborne laser remote sensing should be featured as a powerful and useful technique for this purpose. Several groups have been working on developments of airborne laser remote sensing systems with cw CO2 lasers and pulsed CO2 lasers.1–4)
