Optoacoustic Gas Spectroscopy with Laser Sources

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Springer Series in Optical Sciences ((SSOS,volume 37))

Abstract

The physical processes responsible for the OA phenomenon are the same for both coherent and incoherent radiation sources. They include optical resonant excitation of the medium followed by radiation absorption, non-radiative relaxation of excited particles, heating of the medium, and the formation of acoustic vibrations. The use of coherent radiation sources has quite a number of advantages and leads to essential features both in the processes of generating OA signals and in the principles of designing proper measuring schemes.
