Abstract

In this work we present a new approach for implementing a fiber gyroscope, based on a frequency-stabilized Zeeman He-Ne laser as the source feeding the fiber coil. The two modes of the source are generated at slightly different frequencies and have orthogonal polarizations. These features make it possible to measure the inertial phase shift with its sign, and give high linearity on a wide dynamic range of rotation and inherently good sensitivity.
