Abstract
The high resolution polarization spectroscopy by means of quasitravelling waves allows to enlarge the signal-to-background ratio of spectroscopic measurements and furthermore to obtain information about the rotational quantum numbers of the resonant levels. If it would be possible to apply polarization methods also to standing waves, one could place the absorption cell inside the laser resonator and combine on this way the advantages of polarization and intracavity spectroscopy. That means, however, equal intensities and equal polarization states for the two counterpropagating waves in contrast to the methods used up to now /1, 2, 3/.
