The Cell Cycle and Cellular Differentiation in Insects

  • Chapter
Cell Cycle and Cell Differentiation

Part of the book series: Results and Problems in Cell Differentiation ((RESULTS,volume 7))

Abstract

When one event regularly follows another it is common practice to assume a causal relationship between the two. Such a view may be of little heuristic value unless the mechanism is specified. The study of the interrelation between the cell cycle and differentiation is a case in point. Because differentiation always follows some cell division, a theory of any usefulness must depend on experiments that pinpoint a determinative element in the preceding cell cycle.
