Abstract

In Korea, most GIS-related national standards are produced by TTA (Telecommunications Technology Association). Among dozens of nation-wide GIS standards by TTA, transportation data model is considered as a kind of framework standard database model for the transportation application domains. In this study, multiple types of geographic features or objects defined in the TTA transportation data model were encoded by GML for the XML-databases building, taking into account of practical applicability in the GIS application. For this process, it was carried out to implement GML editor software with the main functions of (1) supporting and customizing map style sheet, (2) attribute editing, (3) adding/deleting/manipulating geo-base features in TTA data model and user-defined model for database extension, (4) web publishing through general web browser, and (5) data transferring to SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) for 2D transportation features and X3D for 3D complex features. It is thought that functions handling SVG and X3D from GML or XML database can be used as major components within web-based geospatial data services supporting complex types of transportation application data model, as well as nation-wide standard database model including 2D and 3D geospatial data sets. This approach can be utilized to web-based GIS services application related to standard data model containing 3D complex data sets.
