Abstract

In SC reasoning, we have to consider the problem of truth because the truth values of statements play an important role when we draw conclusions. SC reasoning, in turn, is an essential constituent in our model construction. This chapter will consider the issue of the degree of truth at a general level, whereas the practice of fuzzy reasoning will be examined in the following chapters. We will examine the prevailing conceptions of truth as well as a new metric approach. Since truth is related to such concepts as information, knowledge and uncertainty, we will also consider these issues briefly.
