Abstract
The active control of sound transmission in a duct is used to illustrate both the physical principles of control and its practical implementation. The control of more complicated acoustic fields, such as those inside enclosures, is then described, with particular reference to the reduction of noise inside aircraft. Finally, the potential for controlling sound generation at source is discussed, using flow-excited cavity oscillations as an example.
