Conclusions

On the basis of impressions gathered from the public and of the preliminary measurements available at the present time, the quality of the three halls can be said to be very satisfactory. It is clear that a quantitative definition of the properties of the halls, i.e. more objective, will be possible only after enough measurements of the four essential parameters — Tr, C, G, IACC — have been taken in conditions of spatial resolution, as regards both the listening points in the halls and the points of emission of sound on the stage. It is also possible that, on the basis of mature experience, successive operations on the moveable parts of the structure can render the acoustics of the three halls as close as possible to optimum behaviour.

I am grateful to Jürgen Reinhold of Müller-BBM for having made available the preliminary data presented in this paper, and to Francesca Malandrucco of the Press Bureau of “Musica per Roma” in Rome for having made the photographs available.
