Zusammenfassung

Der Handel mit Kokain spielt auf dem illegalen Drogenmarkt eine wirtschaftlich bedeutende Rolle. Im Jahr 2004 wurden in Deutschland rund 945 kg Kokain sichergestellt. Das Institut für Therapieforschung in München schätzte schon 2001 die Zahl der Kokainkonsumenten in Deutschland auf 300 000 mit steigender Tendenz. Kokain hat sich von der sogenannten Schickeria-Droge längst in alle sozialen Schichten ausgebreitet. Im Jahr 2003 wurden in der polizeilichen Kriminalstatistik 8 823 Kokainhandelsdelikte in Deutschland registriert. Dies sind im Bundesdurchschnitt 11 Delikte auf 100 000 Einwohner. Auch die Unfälle im Straßenverkehr unter dem Einfluss von Drogen nehmen laut Bundeskriminalamt zu. Im Drogenbericht der Bundesrepublik von 2005 haben etwa ein Drittel aller 12- bis 25-Jährigen illegale Drogen probiert, wobei der Anteil an Kokain bei 2% liegt. In den USA hat Kokain nach Angaben des National Institute of Drug Abuse die größte Drogenepidemie der Geschichte verursacht.
