Eine 45-jährige Frau bemerkt seit einiger Zeit eine Müdigkeit der oberen Augenlider und Sehstörungen (Doppelbilder), vor allem bei emotionalem Stress und Schlafmangel. Vor ihrer nächsten Regelblutung kommen Probleme beim Schlucken und Sprechen und mit der mimischen Muskulatur hinzu. Da diese Symptome nach der Monatsblutung größtenteils wieder verschwinden, sucht die Frau zunächst keine ärztliche Beratung. Als sich aber mehrere Monate danach eine Schwäche weiterer Skelettmuskeln einstellt, die schließlich sogar die Atemmuskulatur betrifft, erfährt die Patientin beim Arztbesuch, dass sie an Myasthenia gravis erkrankt ist.
