Abstract
In their contribution, the authors survey the literature on the political economy of trade protection and its counterpart, the literature dealing with the political economy of migration. This is a laudable endeavor. While the political economy of trade policy is relatively well developed, the literature on the political economy of migration is considerably less advanced, and a comparison of the two is a worthwhile undertaking. The only other comparison, known to this discussant, of the two areas is the recent contribution by Facchini (2004) who reaches different conclusions—a point I will return to below.
