Abstract
In this paper, we introduce the multiple access collision prevention (MACP) scheme for MAC-layer collision control without relying on busy tone. MACP is the first and only distributed MAC scheme that can achieve collision freedom for both control messages and data packets, even in the presence of hidden terminals without relying on spread spectrum with extremely large spreading factors. The proposed position-based prohibiting mechanism is particularly suitable for future high-speed networks with non-negligible propagation delay, and can mitigate the additive prohibiting signal problem without unnecessary idle time as previous approaches based on backoff.
