Zusammenfassung

Im Hinblick auf das arabische Publikum ist Al-Qaidas strategische Kalkül vom 11. September 2001 gescheitert. Während die US-amerikanische Reaktion, wie von Osama Bin Laden erhofft, auf deutlichen Widerspruch stieß, distanzierte sich die arabische öffentliche Meinung innerhalb des letzten Jahrzehnts immer deutlicher von der Gewaltanwendung gegen Zivilisten. Die dramatischen Ereignisse des arabischen Frühlings des Jahres 2011 lassen den 11. September 2001 noch deutlicher als Teil eines sich nun schließenden, autoritären Kapitels arabischer Geschichte erscheinen.
