Wenn es um Emotionen in sozialwissenschaftlichen und ökonomischen Theorien geht, so gehört der Sozialwissenschaftler Jon Elster wohl zu den am meisten zitierten und beachteten Autoren. Neben einigen Artikeln (u. a. Elster 1985, 1996 1998) sind es insbesondere drei Monographien (1999, 2000a, 2000b), in denen sich Elster mit Emotionen und den Konsequenzen ihrer Beachtung für die ökonomische Theoriebildung befasst.
