Zusammenfassung
Militärischer Sieg und politische Niederlage – diese paradoxe Formel begegnet im Zusammenhang mit dem Algerienkrieg relativ häufig. Zunächst warf die extreme Rechte gemäß Constantin Melnik der Regierung de Gaulle eine „Politik der Schwäche“ bzw. das absichtsvolle Aufgeben Algeriens vor, das den militärischen Erfolg zunichte gemacht habe (Melnik 1967: 2). Die These vom militärischen Sieg findet sich aber auch in differenzierten Analysen der französischen Counterinsurgency (COIN), die das politische Scheitern Frankreichs unter den gegebenen Umständen ohnehin für unausweichlich hielten (z.B. Elsenhans 1979: 129-133). Sieg und Niederlage liegen im algerischen Fall offenbar so nah beieinander, dass sich ihre Abgrenzung allein als eine Frage der Perspektive darstellt. Der französischen Counterinsurgency wird man folglich weder mit dem Label einer beispielhaften Blaupause noch mit dem eines Negativbeispiels gerecht.
