Zusammenfassung
Bedrängen oder verdrängen die Medien immer mehr die internationale Politik? Wachsender Einfluss der Massenmedien auf die Außenpolitik/Internationale Politik wurde seit den frühen 1990er-Jahren häufig konstatiert oder beschworen, aber konkrete Untersuchungsergebnisse sind selten. Verbreitete Kritik schreibt den Medien zunehmende Definitionsmacht über die Wirklichkeit zu: Besonders das Fernsehen produziere eine neue politische Realität, konterkariere wegen seiner nicht-reziproken, einlinigen Übermittlungsstruktur gehaltvolle Information und Kommunikation, destabilisiere mit Ausmaß und Geschwindigkeit der Informationsproduktion Wahrnehmungs- und Beurteilungsvermögen und entscheide dank der Fixierung auf Aktualität, ‘events’ und Sensation selbständig über die politische Berichtsrelevanz (z.B. Schmidt 1996: 108).
