Zusammenfassung

Die Herauslösung des Menschen aus Strukturen ständischer, dörflicher oder familiärer Ordnungen war ein zentraler Aspekt gesellschaftlicher Modernisieruagsprozesse. In der Konsequenz ergab sich daraus ein Mehr an persönlichen Freiheiten, aber auch größere Unsicherheiten und Verantwortlichkeiten für die Gestaltung individueller Lebenswege. Gleichwohl blieb das Individuum in ordnende, komple- xitäts- und unsicherheitsreduzierende Strukturen eingebettet So sind auch moderne Gesellschaften von Gemeinschaften gekennzeichnet, die sich aber nicht mehr durch Verwandtschaft und raumliche Nahe definieren, sondern durch sich überlappende Netzwerke von Beziehungen zu Verwandten, Freunden, Nachbarn oder Arbeitskollegen (Wellman/Leighton 1979).
