New boys? A Nordic Perspective

Abstract

Abstract „Neue Jungen? – Eine nordische Perspektive“

This contribution focuses on the development of gender and particularly on how Middleclass masculinities may have been influenced by the „Nordic gender equality regime”. Harriet Bjerrum Nielsen discusses the influence of the changing family structures on children, especially on boys. She uses data from a longitudinal study in which a school class was followed with annual observations and interviews from first and until the ninth grade and again after high school was completed. The findings indicate a complex picture of continuities and changes in what it means to be a boy in school today.
