Dieser Zeitungsausschnitt zeigt in bedrückender Weise, zu welcher Grausamkeit Kinder und Jugendliche unter bestimmten Umständen in der Lage sind. Und er zeigt, welcher Albtraum es für den gequälten Schüler sein kann, zur Schule zu gehen — häufig, ohne dass die Eltern oder die Lehrer ahnen, was los ist.

„Zwei Jahre lang war Johnny, ein stiller 13-jähriger Junge, für einige seiner Klassenkameraden ein lebendiges Spielzeug. Die Teenager nahmen Johnny Geld ab, zwangen ihn, Unkraut zu essen und Milch zu trinken, die mit Putzmitteln gemischt war. Sie schlugen ihn in den Toilettenräumen zusammen und banden ihm ein Seil um den Hals, um ihn als „Haustier“ herumzuführen. Als Johnnys Peiniger nach dem Mobbing gefragt wurden, sagten sie, sie hätten ihr Opfer gequält, weil es ihnen Spaß gemacht hätte“ (Auszug aus einem Zeitungsartikel in Olweus 1993: 7).
