Jeder Fremde, der nach Mexiko reist, erkennt schnell die vielen Ausdrücke und Symbole der nationalen mexikanischen Identität: Fahnen in allen Größen, Wappen und Abziehbilder mit dem Slogan „Es lebe Mexiko“; die Nationalhymne, die bei zivilen oder sportlichen Ereignissen gesungen wird, sowie unzählige patriotische Feste, die jedes Jahr gefeiert werden. Patriotismus und nationale Identität sind im mexikanischen öffentlichen Leben allgegenwärtig, sowohl im Alltag als auch bei offiziellen Anlässen.
