Zusammenfassung

Die Französische Republik sieht sich selbst nach wie vor als Weltmacht (Kolboom und Stark 2012, S. 301), wenngleich sie wohl treffender als „besondere Mittelmacht“ zu bezeichnen ist. Und obwohl Frankreich weniger als ein Prozent der Weltbevölkerung stellt und sein Gebiet nur 0,5 % der Erdoberfläche ausmacht, ist der französische Wehretat mit 58,8 Milliarden US-Dollar der viertgrößte der Welt und speist weiterhin eine der stärksten Streitkräfte auf dem Globus.
