Abstract
Der vorliegende Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über den internationalen Stand der Publikums- und Kulturnutzungsforschung. Ziel des Kapitels ist es, wichtige international vertretene theoretische Standpunkte zum Kulturbesuch zu erfassen und nationale Studien zur kulturellen Partizipation außerhalb Deutschlands zu betrachten und zu vergleichen. Dabei beziehen sich die Autoren vor allem auf die Forschung in Europa, Nordamerika und Australien. Im Artikel wird deutlich, dass Publikumsforschung im internationalen Vergleich wenig einheitlich geschieht. Zudem zeigen die betrachteten Arbeiten keinerlei methodische Vielfalt, dafür ekla tante Unterschiede in der Definition von Kulturinstitutionen und inhaltlichen Ausrichtung.
