Aus der zunehmenden Globalisierung verschiedener Wirtschaftsakteure erwachsen neue Herausforderungen für die funktionale Gestaltung wirtschaftlichen Handelns. Die Globalisierung als gesteigerte Verbindung (vgl. Tomlinson 2000) und wechselseitige Abhängigkeit (vgl. Guillén 2001) von Menschen weltweit, einhergehend mit dem verstärkten Bewusstsein der Welt als „world as a whole“ (Robertson 1992), führt zu einer immensen Nachfrage an Wissen über die Kulturspezifität des wirtschaftlichen Handelns.
