John Stuart Mills Principles of Political Economy with Some of their Applications to Social Philosophy erschienen 1848. Sie markieren in gewisser Weise das Ende der Periode der klassischen Politischen Ökonomie. John Stuart Mill verfasst seine Principles in nur knapp zwei Jahren zwischen Ende 1845 und Frühjahr 1847. Im Laufe des Jahres 1847 überarbeitet er die erste Fassung nochmals grundlegend. Das Werk erlebt noch zu Mills Lebzeiten weitere sechs Auflagen.
