Zussamenfassung
Als literarischer,konzeptioneller und geschichtlichrealer Raum besitzt der Orient für Hofmannsthal immense Bedeutung. Nicht nur evoziert er in vielen Gedichten und Prosatexten eine orientalische Welt, sondern er verweist auch in seinen historisch-politischen Überlegungen immer wieder auf den Orient und beruft sich in verschiedenen Dramen, vor allem im Spätwerk, auf Konzeptionen ostasiatischen Denkens wie das Karma oder das Tao.
