Zussamenfassung
Dass »alle Entwicklung sich in der Spirale vollzieht« (BW Strauss, 113), konstatiert Hofmannsthal am 20. März 1911 gegenüber Richard Strauss (1864–1949) anlässlich der gemeinsamen Arbeit an Ariadne auf Naxos. Hofmannsthal zeichnet mit der Spirale geradezu symptomatisch ein Bild des langjährigen Verhältnisses der beiden Künstler.
