Der Begriff ›Holismus‹ leitet sich von griech. őλος (holos) für ›ganz‹, ›vollständig‹, ›ohne Teilung‹ oder ›umfassend‹ ab. Es handelt sich also, allgemein gesprochen, um eine Lehre, die das Ganze betrachtet bzw. eine Sache ganzheitlich zu begreifen versucht.
