Zusammenfassung
Eine Überblicksdarstellung zu Affekt und Computerspiel sieht sich vor allem zwei Erschwernissen ausgesetzt: (1.) Die Affizierungskraft des Mediums ist Gegenstand langanhaltender und immer wieder aufflammender Kontroversen, die um die angebliche negative Auswirkung vieler Computerspiele auf das soziale Verhalten der Spieler*innen, ihre Empathiefähigkeit, ihre emotionale Selbstregulation sowie das affektive Suchtpotential kreisen. Befürworter*innen des Mediums widersprechen der (letztlich auf Platons Mimesis-Theorie zurückweisenden) These, dass Gewaltdarstellungen im Spiel zu außerludischer Gewaltbereitschaft führen, bekanntermaßen mit einer impliziten oder expliziten Katharsis-Theorie der kontrollierten Affektabfuhr.
