Zusammenfassung
Die Frage, wie wir uns mit unserem Geist auf die Welt beziehen können, ist eine sehr komplexe Frage, die auf vielen unterschiedlichen Ebenen beantwortet werden kann. In diesem Kapitel werden zunächst Ansätze vorgestellt, die Intentionalität ‚naturalisieren‘ wollen, also irgendwie in Einklang bringen mit einem grundsätzlich ‚physikalistischen‘ Verständnis der Welt. Grundlegend ist dabei der Begriff der mentalen Repräsentation mit der Idee, dass interne Zustände von kognitiven Systemen für andere Entitäten stehen können – ob es sich dabei nun um Symbole einer Sprache des Geistes oder um interne Zustände von abstrakten Automaten handelt. Im Anschluss werden verschieden Ansätze diskutiert, die klären wollen, was bestimmt, was eine Repräsentation repräsentiert. Es geht also um Theorien über die spezifischen Gehalte der mentalen Repräsentationen.
