Kollontaj, eine der bekanntesten Persönlichkeiten der russischen Geschichte des 20. Jh.s, gilt als bolschewistische Revolutionärin, Propagandistin, als Frauenrechtlerin und weltweit erste weibliche Diplomatin. Die Tatsache, daß sie auch Schriftstellerin war, ist kaum bekannt und wird in Rußland bis heute — bewußt oder unbewußt — negiert.
