Abstract

Some of the suggestions incorporated in the third edition of the Teubner Sophocles I have tried to justify in ICS 1994 (on OC) and others in the Heidelberg symposium Editing Texts, where to the parallels for ἀπακονω̑ν ἔπη I can now add Ach. Tat. 8.9.5, George Pachymeres Or. 2 ad fin., and Eulog. fr. Novat. (M. CIV, 349C). One, on OT 421, I would have mentioned in one way or another if I had thought of it in time, was published in RhM 142 (1999)1. But in the great majority of cases I have not set out my reasons, and even now our allotted time span of 35 minutes imposes restrictions. I have therefore decided to limit myself to Philoctetes, trying not to dwell on the nature of the problems involved where this has been well discussed by others.
