Zusammenfassung

Die Frage, welches literarische Wissen man bei Kindern voraussetzen kann bzw. welche Kenntnisse man ihnen bei der Lektüre von Texten vermitteln soll, hat Pädagogen und Literaturkritiker schon immer beschäftigt. So lehnt es der Pädagoge Friedrich August Finger in seinem Vortrag Über zwei Fehler, die wohl manchmal bei der Behandlung von Lesestücken gemacht werden (1881) eher ab, Kinder auf Anspielungen und Quellen zu anderen Texten hinzuweisen, weil dies hinsichtlich des Verständnisses von literarischen Texten mehr zur Verwirrung als zur Klärung beisteuern würde. Er illustriert seine These an folgendem Beispiel:

Ein Lehrer hatte die Aufgabe, als Probelektion in der Oberklasse einer lateinlosen Mittelschule Goethes Zauberlehrling durchzunehmen. Nachdem das Gedicht gelesen war, fing er damit an zu sagen, Goethe habe diese Geschichte nicht erfunden, sondern aus Apulejus entlehnt. Wozu dies hier? Zum Verständnis und zur Würdigung des Gedichts konnte es nichts beitragen. Diese Knaben brauchten wohl in ihrem ganzen Leben nichts von jenem römischen Romanschreiber zu hören. Was da der Lehrer sagte, war ganz überflüssig. (1899, Bd. 2, 167)
