Zusammenfassung
Die Pragmatik gehört nicht zu den Gebieten, mit denen sich die Linguistik traditionell befasst hat — Phonetik/Phonologie, Morphologie, Syntax und etwas Semantik, das waren traditionell die Arbeitsfelder der Linguistik. So ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass nahezu alle wichtigen Impulse zur Herausbildung der Pragmatik als Teildisziplin der Linguistik von außerhalb der Linguistik kamen, nämlich aus der Philosophie vor allem, aber auch aus der Soziologie und der Psychologie. Dieser Prozess der Konstituierung der Pragmatik als Teildisziplin hat erst im 20. Jahrhundert begonnen und kann noch nicht als abgeschlossen betrachtet werden.
