Viele behaupten, der wirtschaftliche Wohlstand hänge von dem Besitz reicher natürlicher Hilfsquellen ab. Es ist in der Tat viel Wahres an dieser Behauptung. Aber Rohstoffe sind nur ein Teil des Gesamtbildes. Wir können beobachten, daß die Bevölkerung mancher Entwicklungsgebiete in der Welt trotz des Vorhandenseins von Hilfsquellen, die andere als größten Reichtum betrachten würden, in Not lebt. Andererseits erhalten sich viele Nationen trotz relativ begrenzter Hilfsquellen einen hohen Lebensstandard.

Abstract

Many claim that achievement of a high level of economic well-being depends on the possession of abundant natural resources. There is in fact much truth in this claim. But resources are only part of the whole story. We can observe that some of the underdeveloped societies of the world live under conditions of hardship in the midst of resources which others would consider fabulously rich. On the other hand, many nations maintain a high standard of living with relatively limited resources.
