Großbritannien: Das Ende der „konservativen Revolution“?

Zusammenfassung

Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg entwickelte sich eine heftige Kontroverse um den „relativen Niedergang“ der britischen Ökonomie. Es wäre allerdings falsch zu vermuten, daß sich dieser „decline“ in negativen Wachstumsraten oder sinkenden Reallöhnen ablesen lasse. In der Tat hatte „auch Großbritannien in den Nachkriegsjahrzehnten eine historisch einmalige Prosperitätsperiode erlebt“ (Scharpf 1987: 97). Der Niedergang wird vielmehr durch den Vergleich der Entwicklung von Wachstum, Produktivität und Einkommen mit anderen Industrieländern offenbar, die erheblich höhere Zuwachsraten aufzuweisen hatten (vgl. Pollard 1994: 270, Hart, 1992: 140).
