Zusammenfassung
Als im November 1970 der damalige Verteidigungsminister Hafiz al-Mad in Syrien die Macht an sich reißen konnte, schien es sich zunächst nur um den Schlußpunkt eines jener zahlreichen Machtkämpfe zu handeln, derer es innerhalb des seit 1963 herrschenden Bacth-Regimes schon viele gegeben hatte und derer zweifellos weitere folgen würden. Niemand konnte seinerzeit ahnen, daß mit der sogenannten Korrektivbewegung (al-haraka al-tashihiyya) — so der offizielle Euphemismus für Asads Staatsstreich — eine bis heute andauernde Phase der Stabilität beginnen sollte.
