Abstract
We began this work by identifying an important class of visual languages and a meaningful application of gestural interfaces for supporting such languages. We call this class of applications handsketch-based diagram editors which allow a user to create and manipulate pictures in these languages by handsketches just as using paper and pen. We analyzed the graphical syntax and the basic structures, and formally defined HiNet diagrams to abstract this class of visual languages.
