Zusammenfassung

Die Schlagwörter keterbukaan („Offenheit“) und demokratisasi („Demokratisierung“) kennzeichneten die gegen Ende der 80er Jahre beginnende Phase der Liberalisierung des politischen Systems in Indonesien. Von vielen mit großen Hoffnungen begrüßt und vorangetrieben1, endete dieser Entwicklungsabschnitt jedoch nur wenige Jahre später in verschärfter Repression. Als Zäsur gilt dabei der Juni 1994, als die beiden wichtigsten politischen Magazine Tempo und Editor sowie die Publikumszeitschrift DeTik wegen unliebsamer Berichterstattung verboten wurden.
