Zusammenfassung
Der folgende Abschnitt widmet sich ausschließlich an erheblich theorieinteressierte Leser. Anhand der beiden aus der Neuen Institutionenökonomie (Coase 1988 und 1993; Demsetz 1967, 1968 und 1988; North 1991; Jensen, Meckling 1976; Hart, Moore 1990; Furubotn, Pejovich 1974; Alchian, Demsetz 1972; Sloan 1988) stammenden Ansätze sollen einige Grundgedanken zur Gestaltung von Institutionen und von Anreiz- und Kontrollsystemen vorgestellt werden. Die Transaktionskostentheorie (Williamson 1975, 1985, 1986 und 1993; Windsperger 1996) liefert ein Analyseraster für die Beurteilung vertikaler Integration entlang der Wertschöpfungskette (und somit beispielsweise auch zur Beurteilung integrierter Versorgungssysteme). Die Prinzipal-AgentenTheorie (Pratt, Zeckhauser 1985; Pauly 1968; Mooney 1993; Akerlof 1970; Arrow 1963) konzentriert sich auf Delegationsbeziehungen und der ihnen inhärenten Informationsasymmetrien. In kaum anderen Bereichen ist es derart offensichtlich, dass erhebliche Informationsasymmetrien zwischen demjenigen, der Aufgaben delegiert (z. B. dem Patienten) und jenen, der Aufgaben ausführt (z. B. einem Arzt) bestehen. Die Prinzipal-Agenten-Theorie geht nun der Frage nach, wie Verträge in einer derartigen Konstellation am sinnvollsten gestaltet werden können.
