Die Helferrückwirkung. Was profitiert der Helfer von seiner Hilfeleistung?

Zusammenfassung

Es ist den Helfern im psychosozialen Bereich oft gar nicht bewußt, welchen immateriellen Gewinn sie selbst aus ihrer Hilfeleistung ziehen. Üblicherweise fragt man nach den Auswirkungen von Hilfe, indem man den Adressaten dieser Hilfeleistung betrachtet. Die Veränderungen seines Zustands gelten als Kriterium für den Erfolg von sozialen, pädagogischen oder therapeutischen Maßnahmen. Soweit der Helfer im Zusammenhang mit den von ihm erbrachten Leistungen gesehen wird, wurden die eher negativen Auswirkungen unter dem Stichwort „burn out“ beschrieben (z.B. Maslach 1985). Die ebenfalls vorhandenen positiven Auswirkungen werden mit dem Begriff „helper-therapy principle“ (Riessman 1965, S. 30f.) bzw. „Helferrückwirkung“ bezeichnet.
