Abstract
The following will look at defining moments in the development of the SPD in an attempt to explain any changes or lack thereof in the relations between the national party organisation and the SPD MEPs. The chapter will commence by looking at and analysing the organisational structure of the party in the framework of its respective polity before going on to look at the national delegation within the PES group itself. It should thus become apparent how any changes at the national level were translated to the EP.
