Zusammenfassung

In den vorangegangenen Kapiteln ist dargestellt worden, wie sich zentrale Momente des Stadtentwicklungsprozesses auf Stadtteile und Stadtteilorganisationen auswirken1. In diesem und im folgenden Kapitel soll die Perspektive auf Stadtteile verengt werden, und Stadtteile sollen als eigenständige soziale und politische Einheiten begriffen werden. Dabei soll geklärt werden, welche soziale und politischen Funktionen Stadtteile in amerikanischen Großstädten haben, um schließlich besser klären zu können, warum sich die Reaktionen auf städtischen Niedergang und Revitalisierung auf Stadtteilebene kristallisierte. Die Frage, die in diesem und dem folgenden Kapitel beantwortet werden soll, lautet: Warum sind Stadtteile bei der Analyse von städtischen Krisenphänomenen und der sie begleitenden politischen Artikulationsformen wichtig?
