Zusammenfassung
Seit langem ist bekannt, daß nach frühen Hirnschädigungen der sprachdominanten Hemisphäre die kontralaterale Seite kompensatorisch die Sprachfunktion der geschädigten übernehmen kann. Im Gegensatz dazu ist die interhemisphärische Reorganisation von Gedächtnisfunktionen nach Hirnschädigungen nur unzureichend untersucht worden. Es werden Ergebnisse einer Studie vorgestellt, bei der mit Hilfe des intrakarotidalen Amobarbital-Tests (Wada-Test) Gedächtnisfunktionen bei Patienten mit einer Epilepsie des linken Ternporallappens der sprachdominanten Hemisphäre geprüft wurden. Dieser Test ermöglicht die Prüfung von Sprach- und Gedächtnisfunktionen einer kurzzeitig funktionell isolierten Hemisphäre. Die Ergebnisse der Studie zeigen, daß die rechte Hemisphäre Funktionen des deklarativen episodischen Gedächtnisses dann übernehmen kann, wenn die Schädigung des linken Temporallappens in den ersten Lebensjahren erfolgt. Die kritische Altersperiode der interhemisphärischen Reorganisation von Gedächtnisfunktionen liegt etwa im gleichen Zeitbereich wie die Übernahme von Sprachfunktionen durch die rechte Hemisphäre nach linkshemisphärischen Schädigungen mit initialer aphasischer Symptomatik. Die Kompensation von episodisch deklarativen Gedächtnisfunktionen durch die rechte Hemisphäre ist jedoch nicht an den Wechsel der Sprachdominanz geknüpft. Konsequenzen für die neuropsychologische und neurolinguistische Forschung werden diskutiert.
